It is one of the oldest cities in the U.S., founded by Puritan colonists from England in 1630. Several key points of American history happened in this city, the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, Paul Revere’s “midnight ride” during the American Revolution, the Battle of Bunker Hill, the Siege of Boston, the first U.S. public school in 1635, and the first subway system in 1897. On April 15, 2013, during the famed Boston Marathon, the city suffered from two bombs that killed three people and injured hundreds.
