Kansas City was founded in 1838 and is now the largest city in Missouri. The city is 316-square miles covering portions of four different counties: Jackson, Clay, Cass, and Platte. As of 2011, the population estimate was 463,202 and the metropolitan area was 2.1 million. The city is well known for its jazz and blues styles of music and Kansas City-style barbecue. In March 2012, the downtown area was selected as one of America’s best downtowns by Forbes magazine. This is due to its rich culture in arts, fountains, shopping, and local barbeque cuisine. Kansas City is often abbreviated as KC, but it’s officially nicknamed the City of Fountains. With over 200 fountains, the city says they have the second most in the world, with Rome being first.
