Huntsville is located in the central part of the northern region of Alabama. Huntsville’s population was 180,105 as of the 2010 census and the Metropolitan Area was 417,593. It is the fourth-largest city in Alabama. The city grew by adding textile mills, munitions factories, NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, and the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command.
